Jakarta, TOPNews Indonesia –
Use face mask sometimes makes the sound that comes out of the mouth when speaking becomes unclear. As a result, communication so annoyed.
Recent studies have found the best masks for communication. This type of mask is claimed not to interfere with communication with a clear voice that can still be produced.
Study published in the journal PLOS One This compares the use of a number of masks, including two types of cotton cloth masks, surgical masks and N95 masks. The study did not include the use of multiple masks.
Researchers enrolled 200 participants to hear voice recordings made by someone using various types of masks under study.
Basically, all three types of masks were found to be effective in producing a clear sound at low noise levels. However, different things are found when someone speaks in an environment or situation with a high level of noise.
“In locations where noise levels are high enough, surgical masks work better at communicating when compared to other masks,” said lead study author, psychologist and neurologist Joseph Toscano. TOPNews.
Surgical masks are masks specially designed for use by surgeons and other nurses in surgical procedures. Masks are meant to help block large particles, sprays, or other splashes that may contain germs.
This type of mask is generally made of three layers of cloth and has a small cord in the nose that can bend and help the mask fit snugly against the face.
This mask is designed for single use only. If you feel dirty or wet from sweat, then you are advised to immediately change the mask.
Prior to this, not many studies had looked at how each type of mask affected the sound that came out of the mouth when communicating.
“In terms of high noise levels, this study found that surgical masks were shown to at least block speech recognition,” said neurosurgeon Jawad Fares, who was not involved in the study.
According to Fase, the findings of this study are very important given the communication challenges faced by several groups in the midst of a pandemic.
