Jakarta, TOPNews Indonesia –
For the sake of getting sperm, a bank sperm in China promises cash for each quality sperm.
The Zhejiang Human Sperm Bank based in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, has repeatedly asked for donors over the past few months.
“Your kindness sparks hope, your devotion helps the future,” said a Weibo post by the sperm bank on Saturday.
“We invite you to do public service and donate your sperm!”
In their previous uploads, they said that donating sperm was the same as donating blood.
“It is a noble humanitarian act, showing a whole new understanding of life.”
“We offered you 5,000 yuan (Rp. 11 million), just to find the best batch in town. What are you waiting for?” write the upload.
The advertisement for a sperm donor request on social media has become a joke by netizens.
“I’m color blind and too old, I’m pretty sure I won’t qualify,” commented one person on Weibo, quoted by the South China Morning Post.
“I’m color blind and too old, I’m pretty sure I won’t qualify,” commented one person on Weibo.
“What if I donate so much sperm that I have children who are not known throughout the country in the future?” another joked.
It’s just that, in reality the enthusiasm of people in the real world is not as excited as in the social world. Sheng Huiqiang, director of the Zhejiang Human Sperm Bank, told Qianjiang Evening News that the bank has faced serious sperm shortages in recent years.
He said that while there have been many calls asking about sperm donation, only a few have actually come. Of those who did come, fewer who escaped were able to donate sperm.
Sheng has worked at a sperm bank since it was founded in 2005. At that time the staff tried to recruit donors from the university but without success, he said. Schools are enthusiastic about advertising against abortion, but hesitant when it comes to donating sperm.
“Even though our society is developing, but society is not completely okay with this, they are less open about it,” he said.
At first, they only had a few dozen donors each year. Gradually, more and more joined. Today, sperm banks have about 1,500 donors each year. However, the numbers are still not enough because sperm quality decreases every year, he said.
“Currently, only about 400 of our 1,500 donors are eligible for donations, around 27 percent. Initially, the sperm quality figure was around 40 percent,” he said.
Sperm quality is considered good if after freezing there are more than 12 million sperm per milliliter.
The decline in sperm in Chinese men has also decreased due to a variety of factors, including smoking, drinking, staying up late and lack of exercise. Previous studies of sperm banks found that among college students in the city, the best sperm quality came from those who majored in physical education.
There are other requirements from the sperm bank to select donors. A person must be between the ages of 20 and 40, must have at least a post-secondary degree, and be at least 1.65 meters tall.
Quality sperm is given to families who are unable to get pregnant or have hereditary diseases. The sperm bank helps more than 2,000 families every year and in the 16 years since it was founded, 11,420 babies have been born, Sheng said.
However, in its development, families who choose sperm donors have more personal needs now, including choosing sperm donors from white and handsome men.
