Angelina Jolie appears in the thrilling action drama film “Those Who Wish Me Dead”. According to the director, there are strong reasons why this top Hollywood star is willing to star in the film.
“Those Who Wish Me Dead” tells the story of Hannah Faber, a firefighter with special skills to survive in a wild forest, in protecting a teenage eyewitness to a murder from the pursuit of two criminals who want to end his life. What makes this film even more tense is that their struggle is said to have taken place in the Montana forest area when it was hit by a great fire.
At first glance, many people might think, this film is just another action film of Angelina Jolie, after “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”, “Salt” and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”. But in fact, it was Angie’s response when facing a divorce from Brad Pitt. The physical challenges Jolie faced in this film are said to be her way of dealing with the emotions that the divorce caused.
“Those Who Wish Me Dead” was shot in New Mexico in May and June 2019, exactly one month after Jolie and Pitt legally separated. Jolie herself is actually not included in the picture of the film’s production plan considering her personal situation.
Is Taylor Sheridan, the director, who came up with the idea to involve Jolie. Initially, Sheridan was only involved as the screenwriter of the film, but when the director said he was resigning, he also offered to say, “If I get Jolie, I will direct the film.”
Many doubted that Jolie would be interested, but it turned out that Sheridan’s calculations were timely. After experiencing a painful and protracted divorce, Jolie was drawn to this relatively simple role. Moreover, in the film he is required to undergo various challenging scenes that can forget his emotional turmoil. Reportedly, Jolie even did a number of dangerous scenes in the film herself, including swimming in a river where the water was extremely cold.
“You know, the role Jolie played dragged her through the emotional upheaval that she was facing. I myself drugged Jolie with various physical challenges. That’s how we made this film,” he explained.
Jolie herself did not mention the reason for the divorce as her motivation to play in this film. He only said that he wanted to play in a film directed by Sheridan.
“I am a fan of Taylor Sheridan’s work. And I am delighted to know there is a film he is directing. After reading the script, I was drawn to star in it. In the wrong hands of a director this kind of film could be a complete failure. I knew he was going to make it authentic and I knew he was going to do it. won’t make him too sentimental, “Jolie commented.
Sheridan was previously known as a screenwriter for quality films such as “To Hell or High Water”, “Sicario” and W “ind River”. In “Wind River” he even directed it.
“Those Who Wish Me Dead”, adapted from the popular 2014 novel by Michael Koryta, hits American and HBO Max theaters starting May 14.
After this film, Jolie will appear in the film Eternals directed by Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao. [ab/uh]
