President Director of Mandaya Healthcare Group, Dr. Ben Widaja, MBChB (UK) stated that starting from the architecture and interior, to the design of how to serve patients at Mandaya Hospital, it was also based on his experience of studying and working as a doctor in England for eight years.
“We identified dozens of gaps, namely the difference between the expectations of patients and their families with what they usually get while in the hospital, especially in Indonesia,” said Ben.
One of the concepts that according to him will be the difference between Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri and other hospitals is patient and family experience.
According to him, this concept was offered because more than 90% of patient complaints were not medical related, but related to the bad experiences experienced by patients and their families.
“For families of patients who have money, they choose to seek treatment abroad. Besides the issue of trust, also because abroad they are served like kings, they get a good experience there compared to Indonesia,” he said.
In addition, Ben said that Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri has also completely changed the old ways of treating patients, from initially treatment-centered only on disease, to being patient-centered.
“In the old way, we did not see the patient’s needs as a whole human being with its complexities in terms of emotional, social, financial, and so on,” said Ben.
Meanwhile, in terms of design and architecture, Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri also brings innovation to realize the concept of patieng & family experience.
One example is the private Emergency Room (IGD), where one patient occupies one room, with soundproof partitions.
“With this system, patients and their families are more comfortable, medically also better because it avoids cross-infection, even mentally it’s also better because tragic events in the patient’s room next door will not interfere,” said Ben.
The standard one patient one room is also applied in the ICU, plus very strict infection control.
Visitors or patients’ families can see patients in the ICU through a large window with a communication system using a switchable smart glass and intercom, without having to enter the ICU treatment area.
This design is to reduce the entry of viruses and bacteria brought by visitors into the ICU area.
This innovation continues in the outpatient room. Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri also does not use rooms such as a large hall with a waiting room full of adjacent seats, but divides the outpatient rooms into 14 clusters. Healthy and infected patients will be separated, and each cluster will have its own waiting room.
“Overall, we can say that the atmosphere or ambience of our hospital is more of a healthy home than a hospital. By combining the concepts of hospitals, malls, hotels, and residences, it has become Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri,” said Ben.
All medical equipment at Mandaya Hospital is also the development of the latest technology, such as the MRI Ingenia Ambition X with ambience experience.
Ben said the IQon Spectral CT CT Scan with an ambiance experience was the first in Indonesia. This advanced technology produces a better image for a more accurate diagnosis.
“This Ambiance experience is interesting, interactive, provides a unique experience for patients. Patients can choose the theme of the room atmosphere, audio-videos that can be watched and heard during the examination,” he concluded.
