Display avocado smooth and shiny is not a guarantee. However, there are several ways to make avocados ripen quickly.
Choosing avocados can be a tricky matter. You believe the avocado is ripe and ready to eat, in fact when you cut it, the opposite happens.
Ripe avocados are soft to the touch and dark skin. The existence of scratches actually does not matter.
Brooke Williamson, winner of Top Chef suggests checking the stem or the point where the twig sticks to the fruit. In a ripe avocado, the stem will begin to sink.
“The stem begins to sink when the avocado is ripe, whereas an unripe avocado has a stem that is still intact and almost protruding,” Williamson said Insiders.
However, if the avocado you get is still raw, don’t worry and throw it away. There are several ways to make avocados ripen quickly.
1. Wrap with paper
Avocados will usually ripen naturally for 3-4 days. You can help the fruit ripen by wrapping it in paper or placing it in a paper bag. This wrapper will block the ethylene gas released by the avocado, helping the ripening process. In addition, the paper wrap still allows the avocado to ‘breathe’ so it is not prone to rot.
2. Combine with banana
To speed up the ripening process, combine an avocado with a banana or two. Quote from Foodie Crush, this step can make avocados ripen in just 1-2 days.

In addition to bananas, you can use kiwi or apples. These fruits will produce gas that makes the hard fruit slowly softer. This natural gas will break down the inner walls of the cells and convert starch into sugar so that the fruit ripens naturally.
3. Store in warm temperature
Once wrapped in paper, try to keep the avocado warm but not too hot. It doesn’t matter if you want to put it in a corner of the house exposed to sunlight.
4. Bake in the oven
Want to immediately eat avocado? Just bake in the oven. This method may sound strange but it is very possible to try considering that avocados are quite versatile and can be eaten in various ways.
Quote from Today, the avocado is first wrapped with aluminum foil then bake at 93 degrees Celsius for 10-15 minutes or more until soft.
5. Warm in the microwave
One way to make avocados ripen quickly is to warm them deep microwave.
First, cut the avocado in half and remove the seeds. Then wrap each piece with plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
Put it in the microwave and set it to ‘high‘ or at most for 2 minutes. When done, dip the avocado in cold water to stop the cooking process.
However, roasting or heating methods are not highly recommended unless avocado is really needed at that time.
“Microwave heating and roasting avocados change the cell structure in the flesh of the fruit. There’s nothing better than fresh avocados and you actually damage them when cooked,” adds Williamson.
