Jakarta, TOPNews Indonesia —
Lately, social media, especially Instagram, has been enlivened with test videos nerve hand. Many netizens have uploaded videos on Reels containing finger movements that hint at random numbers 1-5.
Can this netizen’s hand nerve test really reveal the condition of the hand nerves?
Ryu Hasan, a neurosurgeon specialist at Primaya Hospital, said that finger movements like on Reels Instagram are not a hand nerve test.
“It’s an exercise in motor skills. Motor skills are controlled by the brain, so everyone’s skills are different, for example, some have better fine motor skills than other motor skills,” Ryu explained when contacted on Monday (13/9).
In the video, a series of numbers is shown and then practiced through hand movements. Ryu likens this to sheet music (text containing musical notes) and a person playing a musical instrument. Because people’s visual and motor coordination abilities are different, each person’s hand movements may or may not match the numbers requested. But that does not mean there is a problem with the nerves of your hand.
If you continue to practice finger movements, over time you will be skilled.
“It’s not for testing neurological health or knowing neurological disease,” he added.
In line with Ryu, Yuda Turana, a neurologist at Atma Jaya Hospital, said that the hand nerve test video circulating on social media was not a nerve test. When the nerves of the fingers are disturbed, even simple movements like in the video are not necessarily disturbed.
“For example [saraf tangan] It could be due to muscle and joint disorders,” said Yuda when contacted separately.
Yuda added that disorders of the nerves of the hands or fingers can be characterized by complaints of tingling, stiffness and weakness in the fingers. It can also be found signs of tremors.
Ryu added that a sign of nerve problems in the hand area can also be marked by sudden numbness of the hand. Numbness, for example in the left hand, usually comes from a pinched neck nerve or a problem in the right side of the brain.
Then weakness on one side of the hand. Hands feel weaker than usual. There is also tingling that often occurs from the wrist to the fingertips.
“If the numbness comes and goes or gets worse, you should check with a doctor. Weakness occurs, you must also check,” he said.
