Jakarta, TOPNews Indonesia —
World Alzheimer’s Day commemorated every September 21. Alzheimer become one of the diseases that a person can experience when entering old age.
The main symptom of this disease is that it makes the sufferer experience a decrease in memory, even small things such as directions to go home.
Based on the information from Alzheimer Indonesia (AZI) received TOPNewsIndonesia.comAlzheimer’s disease is a disorder that decreases brain functions such as memory, emotion, behavior, decision making and decreased communication skills.
Alzheimer’s is also referred to as a common cause of Dementia. Dementia is the most common term for memory loss. Citing the official website of the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases.
Currently one in 10 people over the age of 65 has Alzheimer’s disease. Every three seconds there is even one elderly person diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Can attack young people
Neuroscientist at the National Brain Center Hospital, Silvia Francina Lumempouw, said Alzheimer’s generally occurs in those aged 65 years and over.
However, it is possible that people who have not touched the elderly can get Alzheimer’s.
“Usually called Young Onset Alzheimer’s Dementia (YOAD),” said Silvia when contacted by TOPNewsIndonesia.com, Monday (20/9).
Furthermore, Silvia said, Alzheimer’s at a young age can occur due to genetic factors. The number is not much, only 1 percent of the total Alzheimer’s sufferers.
“Usually YOAD starts in your 40s and 50s,” he said.
When a person has early Alzheimer’s, there is no significant difference with adults with Alzheimer’s. Development, from being detected to getting worse, is the same as Alzheimer’s experienced by older people.
In addition, as described in Johns Hopkins Medicine, early Alzheimer’s can also occur due to genetic influences. Although this is rare, some people have genes that contribute to Alzheimer’s disease.
Forgetting something, stammering, and even accusing someone of taking your belongings, even though you forgot to put it, can be early signs or symptoms of Alzheimer’s.
When in this phase, especially when these things happen constantly, be careful, because you may indeed be entering the early phase of becoming a sufferer of Alzheimer’s.
